Judicial Candidate 2020: Chief Justice Kristina Pickering

Learn about the candidate

About the candidate:

I have served on the Nevada Supreme Court since 2009. As a justice, I’ve decided appeals involving—and authored opinions on—such diverse subjects as family law, criminal law, civil and commercial law, water law, public records law, and constitutional law. I am a member of the Nevada Pardons Board; co-chair the Nevada Access to Justice Commission; and co-chaired the committee that revised the NRCP effective March 1, 2019; and am an elected life member of the American Law Institute.

Before joining the Supreme Court, I tried cases and argued appeals in Nevada’s state and federal courts for 25+ years. As a lawyer, I earned the highest rankings from Martindale-Hubbell, Super Lawyers, and Best Lawyers in America. I served on the Nevada Board of Bar Examiners and as an adjunct faculty member at UNLV Boyd School of Law.

Nevada is my home. After graduating from Reno High School, I earned my B.A., with honors, from Yale University, and my J.D. from the University of California, Davis, where I served on law review and was named to Order of the Coif. Following law school, I clerked for U.S. District Judge Bruce Thompson, then entered private practice.

Running for office during the COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging, to say the least. I am both heartened and humbled by the support and endorsements I have received from law enforcement, firefighters, Culinary Local 226, SEIU, and the Israeli-American Civil Action Network, as well as former Governor Brian Sandoval, former Senator Richard Bryan, Sheriff Joe Lombardo, and Attorney General Aaron Ford.

I am grateful to the CCBA for giving judicial candidates this opportunity to address its members. Please vote in the primary!
