Gwynneth Smith brings over twelve years of courtroom experience and a dual background in law and clinical psychology to her campaign for Family Court Department D. A Harvard graduate, she holds a J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University.
As Chief Deputy District Attorney in Clark County’s Juvenile Division, Gwynneth has handled hundreds of cases each year involving child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, substance use, and mental health. She has litigated complex matters at every stage, from petition through trial, and co-authored Nevada AB 148 (2023), which strengthened psychiatric safeguards for minors in foster care.
Gwynneth serves as lead child welfare attorney for two of Clark County’s specialty court programs: the Safe Babies Court for young children in foster care, and the county’s first treatment court for youth with neurodevelopmental diagnoses in the child welfare system.
Her training as a clinical psychologist includes published work on child custody evaluation standards and the role of attachment in custody determinations. She is a board member of NAMI Southern Nevada and previously chaired the Behavioral Health Subcommittee of the Nevada Children’s Commission.
A wife, mother, attorney, and mental health professional, Gwynneth has called Las Vegas home for fourteen years. This community means a great deal to her family, and she sees a judgeship as a continuation of the public service she has built her career around.
Gwynneth is running for Family Court Department D because families navigating custody, divorce, and crisis deserve a judge with the experience, preparation, and steady temperament to decide their cases fairly.
