Judge Jacob Reynolds presides over Department 29 of the Eighth Judicial District Court, an all-civil department, and is the race’s only candidate with either judicial experience or substantial civil litigation practice.
After his 2006 J.D., he clerked two years for then-Chief Judge Roger L. Hunt of the District of Nevada, then spent fourteen years handling complex commercial litigation, constitutional law, and public-official ethics matters at one of Nevada’s largest firms. His cases reached the United States Supreme Court, the Nevada Supreme Court, and federal appellate courts, including personal argument before the Federal Circuit. He prevailed in his final jury trial, a $400 million antitrust matter coordinating over forty attorneys. His due diligence work in Uruguay and Brazil uncovered millions in fraud against Nevadans, leading to criminal indictments. His pro bono clients included maintenance workers, domestic violence survivors, and homeowners; he held Martindale-Hubbell’s AV Preeminent rating and Distinguished Client Service Award.
On the bench, he has been highly rated in the Review-Journal’s “Judging the Judges” survey and earned its retention endorsement. He runs an efficient courtroom and mediates free settlement conferences through the Judicial Settlement Program — including directly in Spanish. He has taught as an adjunct professor at UNLV’s Boyd School of Law.
Judge Reynolds grew up in the United States, Scotland, Israel, and Argentina, working orchards, landscaping crews, and paper routes. He built homes in El Salvador with Habitat for Humanity and serves in his church and community. He and his wife of nearly twenty years, Dr. Tammy Reynolds, a Las Vegas OB/GYN, have enjoyed raising their four children here.
