2024 Judicial Candidate: Jessica Smith-Peterson

Jessica Smith-Peterson is a proud graduate of UCLA and Howard University School of Law. At UCLA Jessica was a double major in Political Science and Anthropology, with a focus on culture and political thought. While at Howard Jessica interned for federal District Court judge, Emmet G. Sullivan, at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, and the Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division which had a hand in shaping her legal mind.

For the past 7 years Jessica has called the Clark County Public Defender’s Office, home. Jessica has spent those years working tirelessly for those who are unable to afford private counsel, serving as a check on our justice system, while ensuring that everyoneؙ—regardless of color, background, or creed—was treated with dignity and respect.

In the span of those 7 years Jessica has not only worked for the community but with the community. She has volunteered with the Las Vegas Urban League Young Professionals, the Las Vegas Chapter of the National Bar Association, and volunteered at several community events at Doolittle Community Center and Pearson Community Center. Her service to others has been passed down to her two daughters who she has raised in tandem with the work she’s done in the Las Vegas community.

Jessica is now seeking this office to continue her service to others, taking the skills she’s learned and bringing thoughtful and just rulings to the bench as a Justice of the Peace for Department 4.
